How do I keep on top of all my receipts?

Long gone are the days where you have to keep shoe boxes full of paper receipts! If you’re still doing this, this will make your bookkeeping very stressful, and it really doesn’t need to be! There’s plenty of software around to help you stay on track of your expenses to ensure that you claim for everything you possibly can and still have the proof to back it up.

At Bluebells Bookkeeping we use software called Dext. Dext integrates with Xero meaning that the bookkeeping is as streamlined and as efficient as possible. By using this type of software you can guarantee that no receipt will ever get missed. With their on the go mobile app, you can simply take a snapshot of your receipt as soon as you receive it, before it gets misplaced!

With the use of OCR technology (Optical Character Recognition) Dext converts your invoices and receipts into readable electronic files. As well as using the mobile app you can integrate your accounts to automatically upload and send emails to a dedicated inbox within the software. You just need to make sure that the invoice or receipt is either within the body of the email or is a PDF attachment. Dext won’t like invoices which are links within the email.

This type of software also recognises any duplicates so there’s no need to worry if you upload something twice.

Whether you do your own bookkeeping or have a bookkeeper looking after your accounts Dext will make your life so much easier and save you so much time.

If you want to avoid the hassle of a subscription we can include this as part of your bookkeeping. Just get in touch to get back in control of your expenses.

Trivial benefits are a UK tax rule that lets directors and employees receive small perks tax-free, as long as you stick to HMRC’s conditions. Done properly, they’re a neat little win: a morale boost for you or your team, without creating extra tax, National Insurance, or admin.
