Why goals are easier to achieve with a bookkeeper by your side

Do you think about your business goals each year? Do you manage to achieve everything you set out to do? If not, having a bookkeeper by your side could make a huge difference to your business success.

Here’s why…

As a business owner, it’s unlikely you have the time to review your business finances in detail. You’re busy concentrating on getting more sales and keeping your clients happy. The spare time you do have is spent with family and friends, the last thing you want to be doing is spending time looking at numbers when you don’t really understand what they mean.

Understanding your finances

A bookkeeper can give you clarity about your finances. By keeping on top of your bookkeeping you’ll have a true picture of what your current financial status is. Not only that but you’ll also get clarity of your future finances. That’s the bit which is really crucial when goal setting.

Whether it’s your goal to spend more time with loved ones, go on holiday or make 6 figures, the bottom line is that your business is going to be needing to make enough money to do all of this.

Control overspending

If you’re a business owner who likes to spend, a bookkeeper can hold you accountable and help you to budget. This will improve your cash flow and give you a better chance of achieving your financial goals. They can review your outgoings and make suggestions in order to help you to cut back on unnecessary business expenses.

Accountability

If you set goals alone then you have no one to hold you accountable. This means there’s no pressure on you to achieve your goal, or even review your progress. By having a monthly meeting with your bookkeeper you can track your progress together. You can celebrate your milestones with each other and if you seem like you’re going off- piste then your bookkeeper can soon help you to get back on track. The more wary you are of your progress, the quicker you can react and adapt accordingly to ensure you’re heading in the right direction. If you bury your head in the sand about your progress then this will result in the situation spiralling out of control meaning your goal just gets further out of reach.

Financial advice

As a bookkeeper we have a solid understanding and knowledge of financial principles which means we can provide valuable advice. This allows you to make informed business decisions when it comes to investments, savings and business strategies.

Your business requires investment of your time as you well know, but it also requires you to reach out for support when it’s needed. Having an expert on hand to support you in 2024 will take your business to the next level.

Let’s do it together!

Bookkeeping isn’t just a box-ticking exercise. Done well, it creates clarity, strengthens decision-making, and proves that your organisation is financially well-managed. Done poorly, it creates confusion, delays, and doubt.

For many charities, Excel (or Google Sheets) starts as a simple, low-cost way to track income and spending. And in the early days, it can work perfectly well. But as your charity grows, funding becomes more complex, reporting expectations increase, and your team needs clearer visibility of the numbers.

Hiring your first employee (or your next one) is a big moment. It can feel like a leap, especially when budgets are tight, workloads are unpredictable, and you’re already treading water. But hiring isn’t just a “people decision”. It’s a financial decision that affects cashflow, profit, productivity, compliance, and ult

Trivial benefits are a UK tax rule that lets directors and employees receive small perks tax-free, as long as you stick to HMRC’s conditions. Done properly, they’re a neat little win: a morale boost for you or your team, without creating extra tax, National Insurance, or admin.

Running a charity is about impact; supporting people, funding vital services, and making a real difference in your community. But behind every successful charity is something far less visible (and often far less loved): the finances.
