How can my business become more sustainable?

Businesses have a huge impact on the environment, so it’s important to take action now to avoid compromising the planet for our future generations. Even a small business can have more impact on the environment than you would expect. There are steps you can take now in order to make our planet a better place.

Reduce your carbon footprint

By thinking more logically about the daily actions we take in our businesses and what the consequences are, we can make small changes which can make a huge difference to our carbon footprint and the impact it has on the environment.

Travel less

Covid made us realise that in actual fact we don’t always have to be with people in person in order to be productive. Making the use of technology and video calling rather than making unnecessary journeys will reduce your carbon footprint. For the journeys you do have to make, consider public transport or even better, walking or cycling.

Recycle

Strongly encourage your team members to do their bit too. Make it easy for them to help around the workplace by placing recycling points in convenient places. If you dispose of sensitive data and use a shredding company as part of your GDPR policy ensure the suppliers you use are eco-friendly.

Choose your suppliers wisely

By choosing suppliers who are consciously making an effort to reduce their impact on the planet then you will reduce your carbon footprint. Every action you take has a consequence. If you support suppliers who aren’t as carbon conscious then it will undone all the hard work you are putting in.

Paperfree

Implement a paperfree policy, only print what you really need to. Deforestation affects the air which we breathe as well as habitats of hundreds of species of various animals. Do your part by using cloud storage and software which allows documents to be signed electronically. Only print when it’s really essential and anything paper which you dispose of, ensure it’s recycled in the correct manner. Paper which isn’t disposed of correctly can produce methane and carbon dioxide in the air.

We’ve already started taking action in our business to ensure that we are playing a part in helping to save the planet for our future generation. You can too!

Think of your P&L statement as your business's financial story. Just like any good story, it has a beginning (your revenue), a middle (your costs and expenses), and an end (your profit or loss).
